Declining AI agent projects
Data as of 2026-06-10 · first weekly scoring run pending · updated weekly
Declining detection compares each project against its own 8-week baseline — it needs a few weeks of history and activates automatically. No shortcuts: calling something “declining” without baseline data would be a guess.
A project is declining when an established repo (500+ stars) that used to grow meaningfully has dropped below 20% of its own 8-week baseline velocity. This catches genuine loss of momentum, not slow weeks. Projects that were officially deprecated in favor of a successor are listed separately below — that's a planned hand-off, not decline.
No declining signals this week — the scored set is holding its baseline.
♻️ Recently deprecated
Officially replaced by a successor. Deprecated projects never appear in the declining ranking.
♻️ Deprecated Google GenerativeAI SDK (deprecated) → succeeded by googleapis__python-genai
Methodology
- Baseline comparison
- Current weekly star velocity is compared to the project's own 8-week average — every project is measured against itself, not against others.
- The 20% threshold
- Velocity below one-fifth of baseline marks genuine momentum loss; a slow week alone never triggers it.
- Established repos only
- Projects under 500 stars are excluded — small-number noise is not decline.
- Deprecation is not decline
- An official hand-off to a successor is a lifecycle event and is reported separately.
All signals are computed from daily snapshots of stars, forks, releases, and npm/PyPI downloads, aggregated weekly. Every number above is traceable to a snapshot date — nothing is editorial, and rankings cannot be bought. Full details on the methodology page.
